IIT Kharagpur students have take out a unique solution to detect fake currency through sensors which are wearable to nuclear radiation tracking at the nationwide competition, Smart India Hackathon 2019.
A team of 6 students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering IIT Kharagpur have created a code for an application of smartphone to address the complication of detecting fake Indian notes. An IIT Kharagpur statement said, the students have created an image processing application which can detect fake or counterfeit currency.
The application, can be installed on various smartphones, and can be used by a good no. of people at ample touch points thus it will reduce the chances of fraud. The 6 students created the code are T.Y.S.S. Santosh, Vipul Tomar, Satish Kumar Reddy, Drishti Tulsi, Sai Krishna and DV Sai Surya.
T.Y.S.S Santosh who was the Group Leader said, “a user can upload the image of the currency and the mobile application would verify its authenticity by using 25 different features. In case the currency is detected as a fake note, the user will get notified for the same.”
The 6-members were asked to develop a solution for localizing and visualizing a 3D radiation source along with its shape, size, and direction. The students won prizes in the grand finale which was held on the 2nd and 3rd March.
