Fight Against COVID-19 Pandemic: Donations pour in for PM Cares Fund

After the announcement of a $22 billion relief package to help the poor, personalities from Bollywood, business, sports, and entertainment world came forward to donate whole-heartedly. For a country like India, fight against coronavirus is not less than a battle.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PM Cares Fund on March 28 to help deal with emergencies like novel coronavirus. The fund has already started receiving contributions from a variety of individuals and corporate entities to combat COVID-19 infection.

Here are some of the highlights of the recent contributions to the PM Fund –

  • Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank, donated INR 25 crore to the PM-Cares Fund.
  • Railway Authorities, commit immediate support of INR 151 crore to PM-Cares Fund.
  • JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal committed to supporting the government in every possible way to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The chairman donated INR 100 crore. The primary objective is to provide relief to the people affected by the virus or to deal with any other kind of emergency.
  • All members of the IAS Association contributed INR 21 lakhs to the PM Cares Fund. It was to strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.

The PM Cares Fund also accepts micro-donations that would go a long way in creating a healthier India. The CRPF staff and even universities like JNU have contributed their one-day’s salary to the PM-Cares Fund. The members of BCCI has contributed INR 50 crore to the fund.
